NZB South Island Sale Online

New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales Series heads south to showcase the South Island Session with the 61-lot catalogue now online.

It is  available online now and arriving in the post from late March.

The Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch will host the Sale on Monday 29 April with selling commencing from 11am.

With yearlings accounting for all 61 lots catalogued, they are eligible to be nominated for the lucrativeKaraka Million Series which comprises of two $1 million races – the Karaka Million 2YO and the Karaka Million 3YO Classic – in addition to the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup which they can contest for the duration of their career.

Shadows Cast - Race ImagesHighlighting the quality southern product on offer at the Sale each year, 14 individual stakes winners have laid claim to 23 stakes wins since the start of the 2014-15 season.

Shadows Cast(NZ) (Per Incanto) continued his Group form from last season and added a Group One victory to his record this season in the Thorndon Mile. While he could have been purchased for just $10,000 at the 2014 Sale, the gelding who was offered by Christine Harris has now won $422,602 in prizemoney – more than 42 times his reserve price.

Boots ‘n’ All(NZ) (Perfectly Ready) scored a second black-type victory this season in the Timaru Cup while his half-brotherAir Max(NZ) (Nadeem) has kicked off his promising race career with back-to-back stakes wins in the Gore Guineas and Dunedin Guineas. The pair were both offered through the draft of Cheryl Wilson and Bruce Sheat’s Partnership in 2014 and 2017 respectively.

Across the Tasman, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trainedYogi(NZ) (Raise the Flag) has won his last two starts, including a second black-type Cup in the Listed Sandown Cup. David and Hazel Voice consigned the gelding at the 2014 Sale with Warwick Colessecuring him for $1,000. He has now won $561,797 in prizemoney, making him one of the greatest bargain buys of the Sale’s history.

This season’s four individual stakes winners so far cost as little as $1,000 and could have been secured for up to $20,000 at the Sale. Together they have won $2,107,993 in prizemoney – an impressive return of 59 times that of their combined original price in the sale ring.

There are a total of 17 vendors offering drafts at the Sale this year with the progeny from a range of 26 sires. Current dual Group One winner and Karaka graduateMadison County(NZ) (Pins) will have a three-quarter sister by Pins (Lot 22) offered at the Sale, while the late sire Ferlax (NZ) (Pentire) will have a half-brother by Iffraaj atLot 13.
