Rubick to Second on Winners List With New Winner

Breednet - Monday March 25
Rubick moved to second on the first season winners list after an impressive debut winner on Monday.

Contemptuous as a yearlingTrained in Queensland by Steve O'Dea, two-year-old colt Contemptuous made the trip south and was never in danger of defeat when sent to the post as a short-priced favourite and led throughout from an inside gate.

Contemptuous is the first foal of Contempt, an unraced daughter of Commands out of a half-sister to Group One Spring Champion Stakes winner Complacent.

He was $100,000 buy for Jamie Walter's Proven Thoroughbreds from the Coolmore Stud draft at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Contempt had been sold by Darley at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $3,000 in 2015 and hasn't proven a bad buy for her new owners with first foal Contemptuous making the $100,000 and second foal, a filly by Nicconi making $85,000 at this year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

She returned to Nicconi last season.

The win moves Rubick to a clear second on the First Season Sires table by winners with six winners from his 22 runners so far.

Better Than ready is a runaway leader of that table with 14 winners. Deep Field sits third with five winners.
