Classique Legend's Half Brother Makes Explosive Debut at Sha Tin

A day after his half-brother Classique Legend took out the $1 million Group II Arrowfield Sprint at Randwick, the John Moore-trained Aethero made a sparkling career debut in the season's first Griffin race over 1000 metres at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Ridden by Zac Purton, the 2yo Sebring gelding was never out of second gear in defeating Winning Method (Holy Roman Emperor) by two lengths with a further six and a quarter lengths back to Sparkling Knight (Holy Roman Emperor) in third.

Purton said he could not go slow enough on the $575,000 Easter Yearling Sale purchase who gave the champion jockey his 100th winner this season.

Consigned by Tyreel Stud to the Easter Yearling Sale, Aethero is the third winner from as many foals out the Encosta de Lago mare Pinocchio, a winning sister to Champion Miler and five-time Group I winner Racing to Win and a half-sister to Group III winner Purrealist.

Purchased for $320,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Pinocchio has a colt foal by So You Think and was covered by Capitalist last spring.
