An I Am Invincible filly became the highest-priced Inglis weanling in more than a decade, topping a strong day of action to start the Australian broodmare and Weanling Sale.
The daughter of multiple G1 winner Srikandi, who herself will be offered for auction at tomorrow night's Inglis Chairman's Sale, realised $600,000, selling to Andrew Williams Bloodstock.
On an excellent day of trade at Riverside:
*The top lot, offered by Kitchwin Hills, became the most expensive I Am Invincible weanling ever sold in Australia
*The second-top lot, a colt out of Triband which sold for $220,000 to Aquis Farm from Coolmore, was the first American Pharoah foal ever offered in the southern hemisphere
*A total of 14 weanlings sold for $100,000 more, from 12 different sires – I Am Invincible, American Pharoah, Sebring, Zoustar, Extreme Choice, Brazen Beau, Pierro, Dundeel, Maurice, Capitalist, Rubick and Exceed And Excel
*The weanlings sold at a clearance rate of a rising 83%, an average of $36,652 and a gross of $6,340,750.
Andrew Williams described the Srikandi filly as "a weanling of the highest quality''.
"She deserved to make that money, she's got a really good shape to her, good head, walked well and was very similar to the dam,'' he said.
"It seemed like a very international bidding war there, there were people from all over the globe bidding which is a great indicator for this sale in general.''
Kitchwin's Mick Malone was understandably thrilled with the result.
"We thought something north of the $400,000 mark would be her go but realistically didn't expect $600,000,'' Malone said.
"Srikandi was a great race filly and is proving early to be a quality producer as well, with her first yearling selling for $400,000 and now this, so whoever buys her at the Chairman's Sale tomorrow night is in for some fun.''
The American Pharoah x Triband colt which finished the day as second-top lot at $220,000 was well received by the market, being the first foal offered in the southern hemisphere by the US Triple Crown winner.
"American Pharoah is the best racehorse at stud in Australia and an outstanding physical specimen to boot,'' Coolmore's Tom Moore said.
"He has already made a phenomenal start to his career as a sire with two Royal Ascot prospects from his first three runners.
"As a whole his progeny are incredible types and this colt was no exception.''
Aquis' Shane McGrath said of the purchase: "We loved the colt and he is out of a Fastnet Rock mare who is going to have a significant influence as a broodmare sire.
"The sire was a phenomenal racehorse and we have seen plenty of his stock around so far and they are lovely weanlings. If they all look like this foal, American Pharoah is a big chance of making it.''

A world-class catalogue of 60 lots has been collated including the likes of G1 Thousand Guineas winner Aloisia, dual G1 winner Srikandi in foal to American Pharoah, G2-winning and G1-placed sprinter Snitty Kitty, Champion 3YO Filly of her generation Norzita in foal to Snitzel, Pasadena Girl – the only G1-winning 2YO filly by Savabeel in foal to Sebring, Now Now – the dam of G2-winning, G1 placed millionaire Fiesta in foal to Pierro, champion sprinter Santa Ana Lane's dam Fast Fleet, star 2YO Loving Gaby's dam Maastricht and Dashoff, dam of multiple Group-winning, G1 placed race mare Spright, in foal to I Am Invincible.
The sale will begin with a nomination to Widden Stud's hot new first season sire, four-time G1 winner, Trapeze Artist for the 2019 Australian breeding season, with all proceeds going to injured jockey Tye Angland.

Inspections for the Chairman's Sale continue tomorrow morning at Riverside right up until the start of the sale.
