One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 16
Late season two year-old races often throw up some promising winners that fly beneath the radar and we saw one at Wyong on Thursday, whose stakes-winning dam Bonnie Mac (NZ) will be offered at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Exceedance as a yearlingExceed and Excel colt Exceedance was given two quiet trials by Team Hawkes, but was all business on race day, charging home from back in the field to win the 1100 metre dash by three-quarters of a length with ease.

A $180,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Vinery Stud from the Newgate Farm draft, Exceedance runs for a big group of influential owners and breeders including Vinery in whose colours he runs.

Exceedance is the first living foal of stakes-winning Thorn Park mare Bonnie Mac, a half-sister to Group III winners Upham and Intimate Moment as well as stakes-winner Gold Rum.

B onnie Mac will be offered as part of the Newgate Consignment at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale as Lot 1037 and is in foal to Golden Slipper winner Capitalist.

Her current yearling, another colt by Exceed and Excel, made $125,000 at Magic Millions this year when offered by Newgate Farm.
