Commercial Opportunities Abound with Bell View Park Mares

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 21
Adam Mackrell's South Coast based Bell View Park has established an enviable reputation for trading top quality mares and the draft of 21 to be offered at the Gold Coast in the 2019 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale includes eight stakes performers and seven metropolitan winners.

Bell View Park are renowned for trading top quality commercial mares"We take great care in firstly selecting our mares and secondly mating them to a stallion that suits both physically and genetically," explained Adam Mackrell.

"Our aim is to give the buyers of our mares every chance to produce a highly commercial yearling as well as a successful racehorse.

"All 21 mares are in foal to highly commercial stallions with all of them covered before the end of October with 15 of them being covered in September.

"It also should be noted that 11 of our 21 mares don't carry any Danehill blood and only three of our mares are by sons or grandsons of Danehill. This will leave plenty of options for future matings to any of the popular Danehill line sires."

Bell View Park keep a close watch on the results enjoyed by purchasers of their mares and the following are great examples of the money to be made from an astute investment on an elite mare.

  • Henry Field Bloodstock purchased the Not A Single Doubt mare Certitude in foal to Dissident for 67.5k in 2016 - The resulting colt made 215k at the 2018 MM yearling sales

  • Musk Creek purchased the stakes winning Iffraaj mare If I Can I Can in foal to I am Invincible for 350k in 2016 - The resulting filly made 475k at the 2018 MM sale.

  • Lacoste Bloodstock purchased the G1 placed Danroad mare Designated Driver in foal to Vancouver for 175k in 2017 - The resulting filly made 150k at the 2018 MM weanling sale and off the back of this filly onsold the mare at the same sale in foal to Astern for 340k.

  • Damon Gabbedy's Belmont Bloodstock purchased the metropolitan winning Encosta De Lago mare Inishowen in foal Wandjina for 135k in 2017 - The resulting colt made 180k at this year's MM sale.

  • Paul Maroney bough the Dylan Thomas mare Kim Dynasty in foal to Rubick for 70k in 2017 - The resulting colt made 360k at this year's NZBS Premier Yearling Sale.

Bell View Park have also enjoyed excellent success on the track to date from limited runners produced by the mares sold .

"From our first draft of 24 mares that sold in 2016, four of the mares have produced stakes winners and two mares have produced stakes placegetters," Adam Mackrell revealed.

"We sold the metropolitan winning Magnus mare Maglissa in foal to Hinchinbrook to agent Tim Stewart. The colt out of her was Listed Maribyrnong Trial winner Unite and Conquer.

"We also sold the stakes placed High Chaparral mare Prairie Star in foal to Sebring to Sun Stud. The colt out of her is the highly promising recent G3 placed 2yo Fortress Command.

"The stakes winners Sweet Redemption, Lubiton and Krone as well as Group placed Mujallad have also been produced by mares sold from this draft."

Bell View Park present these mares to sell and from 74 mares offered since 2016 under their own banner at auction they have sold 72 of them.

"It's so important that potential buyers can bid on our mares with confidence, knowing they are a genuine chance of buying them," Mackrell added.

Lot 1108: Counterplay: A lightly race metropolitan winning 2YO and G3 placed Sepoy mare. She was very precocious, winning her only trial and two starts as a 2YO. She trained on to place in the G3 Thoroughbred Club stakes as a 3YO.

"This mare has let down into a lovely mare. She has plenty of size, strength and quality and Sebring complements her nicely" - Adam Mackrell.

Lot 1129: Devious Rumor (USA): An imported stakes winning Street Boss mare. She was a fast, on speed racehorse who won 12 of her 24 starts from 800m-1200m. She was also very versatile winning on turf and dirt and wet and dry tracks.

"This mare is all about speed. She has muscle on muscle and you can see why she could fly the gates and run. She also has plenty of quality and Written Tycoon was an obvious mating for her," – Adam Mackrell.

Lot 1611: Elliptical Orbit (USA): An imported Scat Daddy mare from the family of Gust of Wind. She is the only Scat Daddy mare to be sold at auction in Australia and New Zealand this year.

Lot 1356: Mariquita: A Sydney Saturday metropolitan winning daughter of the record breaking stallion I am Invincible. She comes from the great Eight Carat family.

"This mare is a great package and ticks all the boxes - She is by an outstanding sire, she comes from a great family, she was well performed on the track, she is a lovely type and sells in foal to the outstanding young sire Zoustar," – Adam Mackrell.

Lot 1694: Written Era: A Melbourne metropolitan winning daughter of Written Tycoon who came from last to be narrowly beaten in the MRC G3 WW Cockram Stakes.
