Group I racing in Australia for this season is at an end and analysis of the horses lauded as the best of the best backs up the decision of Winx's owners to choose I Am Invincible as her first partner as we find Winx as the most successful Group I horse with seven wins and I Am Invincible the most successful Group I sire with four individual Group I winners.

Image courtesy Yarraman ParkThere were 74 Group I races run during the 2018/2019 season producing 58 individual Group I winners including the following multiple Group I winners – Winx (7), The Autumn Sun (4), Sunlight (3), Avilius (GB) (2), Kenedna (2), Santa Ana Lane (2), The Bostonian (NZ) (2) and Verry Elleegant (NZ) (2).

The most successful stallion was I Am Invincible with four individual Group I winners (Oohood, Invincibella, Voodoo Lad, Viddora) with other sires to produce multiple winners being Lonhro (Aristia, Lyre), Not a Single Doubt (Kenedna, Qafila), O'Reilly (NZ) (Brutal (NZ), Grunt (NZ)), Pierro (Pierata, Arcadia Queen), Redoute's Choice (The Autumn Sun , Galaxy Star), Street Cry (IRE) (Winx, Trekking), Teofilo (IRE) (Cross Counter (IRE), Humidor (NZ)) and Written Tycoon (Booker, Despatch).

The most successful Group I broodmare sires were Arrowfield Stud's former legendary sires Redoute's Choice and Flying Spur, who each sired the dams of four Group I winners.

Redoute's Choice mares produced Extra Brut(by Domesday), Arcadia Queen (by Pierro), Trekking (by Street Cry (IRE), Amphitrite (by Sebring).

Flying Spur mares produced Pierata (by Pierro), Shillelagh (by Savabeel), Booker (by Written Tycoon), Nakeeta Jane (by So You Think).
