First Foal for Merchant Navy

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 15
Fastnet Rock's champion sprinting son Merchant Navy has his first foals arriving this spring for Coolmore.

Fresh from his success at Royal Ascot last year in the Group I Diamond Jubilee Stakes, Merchant Navy was Australia's most popular first season sire in 2018 covering 247 mares at a fee of $55,000.

Among his first foals to be born is this lovely bay filly bred by Sir Owen Glenn's Go Bloodstock from Group II placed Savabeel mare Santuzza, who comes from the family of European Horse of the Year Rock of Gibraltar. This family has already achieved success with Fastnet Rock to produce Group I Curragh Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Intricately.

Merchant Navy has let down into a magnificent stallion and is the first son of his champion sire Fastnet Rock to stand at Coolmore. He remains at a fee of $55,000.
