Magic Millions Adelaide has a New Pin Up Boy

Media Release - Sunday September 22
Trainer Daniel Bowman and jockey Declan Bates combined for their biggest wins in racing when Begood Toya Mother scored a sizzling win in the Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Begood Toya MotherThe progressive son of Myboycharlie proved much too good for his rivals under a jubilant Bates who stood high in the irons asthey coasted to the line.

With 55 part owners, it seems fitting the latest star galloper from Warrnambool should have such a clever name - Begood Toya Mother a common response for those looking for a tip!

From just 13 starts today's Group One breakthrough was the eighth win for the exciting five-year-old.

Bowman said the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes was always the main aim this preparation and had been the target since winning a race at Sandown earlier this year.

"Since Sandown (in April) he put the writing on the wall as the type of horse that fitted the profile for this race," Bowman said.

"So that's when we put the plan in motion to get here and when a long-range plan comes off it's fulfilling."

"I'm sure it'll sink in later," Bowman added.

Bates said he was taken aback with the ease of the length and a quarter win - a margin which would have been further if he was ridden out of the line.

"I was surprised how easily he did it in the end to be honest," winning rider Declan Bates said.

"Just credit to Danieland his staff, he just keeps improving this horse, mentally more than anything."

"He was a bit tricky so they've done a massive job just to help him mature and produce him for the big day."

Begood Toya Mother is quickly turning into one of the great value buys in racing. Bowman purchased him as a yearling for $28,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Donnybrook Estates.

He is the third Australian Group One winner for the Prix Morny winner Myboycharlie following in the hoofsteps of Jameka and Peggy Jean.

His dam Lady of Helena, a winner at 1550 metres, is a half sister to Western Red - a Group One winner in both Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Pierata showed he was the horse to beat in next month's $14 million The Everest with a barnstorming win in today's $500,000 The Shorts (1100m)at Randwick.

The Greg Hickman trained son of Pierro finished full of running under Tommy Berry for an impressive win.

A $160,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy from the Kitchwin Hills draft, Pierata hit the line solidly after racing just off the speed and he looks set to relish another step up to distance for his upcoming Grand Final.

Pierata will race in the Aquis Farm slot in The Everest (1200m).
