'Positive' Start in the Valley!

Media Release - Monday September 23

Famed Widden Stud had the enviable task this season of launching the careers of the Champion Australian 2yo colt of his generation and the Champion Australian 3yo and are thrilled to announce both new recruits Written By (Written Tycoon) and Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) are proving every bit as effective in the barn as they were on the track.

Blue Diamond winner Written By is thriving in his new career at stud"Trapeze Artist is currently scanning at 88% for positive pregnancies, whilst Written By is at 89% fertility," said Widden Stud Manager, David Merrick

"We’re so fortunate to have these young sires here in the Widden Valley and very thankful the fertility they are displaying at this early stage of their careers. Rightly so, both young stallions have great profiles, are super popular and are a pleasure to deal with in the serving shed."

"Realistically, it’s the luck of the draw with how fertile a stallion will be however we place a lot of emphasis on the practices we have in place and despite their busy schedules, we've been able to manage these stallions in a professional manner.”

Furthermore, proven sires such as Star Witness, Your Song and Nicconi have continued with their excellent fertility percentages.

"All three are again proving particularly potent and importantly each of them have huge numbers coming though over the next two to three years ensuring their ongoing commercial success," Merrick added.

Trapeze ArtistFresh off a Group II winning double Saturday week ago courtesy of Mizzy and Zoutori, Widden's sire sensation Zoustar is another with exceptional fertility.

"Zoustar is a phenomenal horse." Merrick stated.

"He arrived back to us in August after covering a full book of mares in his first year with Tweenhills Stud in the Northern Hemisphere and he hasn't' missed a beat. Already we've had positive scans to the likes of Group I winner SPRIGHT and stakes winners NURSE KITCHEN, SHE'S SO HIGH, KHULASSA, VAIN QUEEN, MINAJ and AVENUE."
