Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 22

Two heats for juveniles at the Warwick Farm trials on Tuesday morning produced a well named homebred filly for Segenhoe that won at the first time of asking and a colt that didn’t win his heat, but has a pedigree that would prick the ears of most followers of racing.

Mark Newnham has a nicely bred filly here in Panna Cotta, who was retained to race by Segenhoe and is a full sister to Group III winner Serene Majesty and half-sister to stakes-winner Curdled being from stakes-winning Lonhro mare Custard. She’s not a big filly, but showed good natural pace and talent.

Am not overly interested in the winner here from a pedigree perspective, but Godolphin’s runner-up Tamerlane has a real international pedigree being one of only four two year-olds in Australia by 2015 Epsom Derby and Arc winner Golden Horn. He’s an interesting one as his dam Wordcraft (GB) is a winning Shamardal mare from Golden Slipper winner Forensics, who was initially sent to the Northern Hemisphere by DArley to start her stud career, but is now back in Australia..

There were only three in the heat and it was little more than a working gallop for all of them, so will be watching to see what Tamerlane can do when he’s actually asked a question.
