Exceed and Excel Colts Surge Late

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 8

The session topper for the first day of Magic Millions on Wednesday arrived late in proceedings with an Exceed and Excel colt from intriguing Frankel mare Dream in Colour (GB) selling for $1.1million to the bid of Coolmore’s Tom Magnier.

$1.1 million Exceed and excel colt from Dream in ColourConsigned by Milburn Creek on behalf of Victorian based Hilldene Farm, the highly prized colt is the first foal of Dream in Colour, who was sourced from the UK by South Coast breeder Adam Mackrell and offered at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in 2018 in his Bell View Farm draft.

Mackrell puts together a top end commercial draft of mares each year in foal to leading sires and sells them at Magic Millions with Dream in Colour fetching $750,000 to the bid of Peter Ford Bloodstock.

The overwhelming sale ring success of this cracking colt is a testament to the good eye of Adam Mackrell in finding the mare and then selecting what appears to have been a very good match for her in Exceed and Excel.

Dream in Colour was bought out of a Tattersalls February Sale in 2017 for 75,000 guineas, so has provided a great result for both Bell View Park and her new owners.

Nick Wakim of Hilldene Farm was delighted with the result declaring he was a standout from day one.

Exceed and Excel was the leading sire by average on day 1 at Magic Millions Dream in Colour was bred by Godolphin and is from Australian Group III winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Colour, who comes from family of Golden Slipper winner Forensics.

Exceed and Excel also kicked another goal last in the sale when the full brother to recent Hong Kong stakes-winner Big Party sold for $900,000 to George Moore Bloodstock.

Consigned by Bhima Thoroughbreds, the dashing grey colt is from De Groove, who has had four foals to race and all are winners.

Darley’s Exceed and Excel finished with five yearlings averaging $588,000 to the be the leading sire by average
