$1.9 Million Deep Impact Colt Lights Up Sale Ring

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 9

Arrowfield Stud have had a comparatively quiet sale so far but were in the limelight on Thursday afternoon when the only colt in the sale by the late Japanese champion sire Deep Impact fetched $1.9million.

$1.9 million Deep Impact colt from Honesty Prevails sold by ArrowfieldBred and sold by Arrowfield, he is the first foal of Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Honesty Prevails and was knocked down to young trainer Richard Litt acting for his major client Galletta Constructions.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me and my stable,” said Richard Litt, who trains Group I winning Dundeel colt Castelvecchio, who was raced by Ottavio and Wendy Galletta exclusively before Arrowfield secured a major interest in the colt last year.

“I have to thank the Galletta’s, Ottvio and Wendy will be sitting at home watching this.

“He’s a striking colt, the pick of the draft.”

Since 2015, Arrowfield Stud have consistently supported Deep Impact by sending small numbers of elite mares to him in Japan before his death last year.

This is the best result they have had in the sale ring for this exercise with their previous best a $1.7 million colt from Grito that was sold at Inglis Easter last year.

“He’s a colt that had so much going for him,” said Arrowfield’s John Messara.

“There were three syndicates on him and in the end Ottavio (Galletta) bought him.

“We bought Castelvecchio from them last year, so now they are giving us back a bit of our money!”

Honesty Prevails has a colt to follow by Shalaa (IRE) and is in foal to Dundeel.
