Henny Hughes Sold to Japan

Media Release - Sunday October 27

A regular shuttler to Australia in recent years, Henny Hughes (USA) has been sold to stand at the Yushun Stallion Station in Japan.

Rangeview Stud owner Robbie Gray announced the sale last Friday.

"We had received several proposals from North America, but while we were contemplating those bids, the Japanese people flew down and made an offer we accepted.

"They wanted the horse and were very forthright," Gray added. "He will finish serving his second book here and then fly out to Japan in December."

Henny Hughes (Hennessy) began his stallion career at Sheikh Mohammed's Kentucky base and shuttled to Darley Australia until his sale to Rangeview in 2012.

Within weeks, his champion filly Beholder began a winning streak that culminated in the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She is primed to double up in the G1 Breeders' Cup Distaff at Santa Anita next Saturday.

Beholder was the catalyst for Walmac Farm to reverse shuttle Henny Hughes from Western Australia back to Kentucky for the 2013 northern breeding season. "She came along at just the right time," Gray said. "Buying Henny Hughes from Darley was the best thing we've ever done."

The Yushun Stallion Station is one of the major studs in Hokkaido and stands leading stallion Samurai Heart (Sunday Silence). Former Coolmore sire Fasliyev was also based there until his death earlier this year.
