Gai and Star Fill the Quinella

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 9
Gai Waterhouse and James Harron Bloodstock continued to buy up a storm at Magic Millions on Thursday, while Gai's former syndicator Star Thoroughbreds, now allied to Chris Waller, also were strong to be second on the buyers list.

Top purchase for Waterhouse on Thursday was a More Than Ready (USA) colt from Danoiserie offered by Baramul Stud and bought for $300,000. He is one of 23 yearlings she has purchased so far for a total of $4 million and change.

Denise Martin's Star Thoroughbreds is now purchasing under the guidance of Waller advisers Guy Mulcaster and Tim Roberts, their most expensive purchase to date a Not a Single Doubt filly from Tremezzo for $190,000.

They have punted heavily on first season sires with eight of the 13 yearlings they have secured being by freshman sires in Hinchinbrook, Starspangledbanner, Star Witness (2), Rothesay (3) and Tickets.
