Coolmore Purchase First Frankel Foal

A world first occurred in the UK overnight with the very first foal of world champion racehorse Frankel being offered for sale at the inaugural Goffs London Sale in association with QIPCO at The Orangery in the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Frankel colt from Crystal GazeConsigned for sale by Tweenhills Farm, the handsome bay colt foal was offered along with his dam Crystal Gaze, who is back in foal to Frankel, the package fetching £1.15 million to the bid of MV Magnier of Coolmore Stud.

Bidding opened at £1 million for the pair and lasted barely five minutes before Magnier struck the winning bid.

Magnier said: "We've really enjoyed tonight's sale and are delighted to have bought such a lovely mare and foal. The Coolmore team really like the look of the colt and we're excited for the future."

The colt is a half-brother to Group II winner Spirit Quartz, click here to see the pedigree.

The sale largely featured breeze up two year-olds and horses in training with Gai Waterhouse / James Harron Bloodstock purchasing Lot 47 Café Society for £330,000.

The four year-old gelding by Motivator and has won three of nine starts.

The top lot at the sale at £1.3 million was stakes-winning two year-old Showcasing colt Capella Sansevero that was bought by Sheikh Fahed Al Thani.
