More Bright Prospects for So You Think

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 31

Undefeated So You Think juvenile Peltzer has been spelled with spring goals in mind after posting three wins in a row and a week later his sire has come up with two more exciting prospects in So You Can and Right You Are

Trained by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, So You Can was narrowly beaten on debut earlier this month when luckless throughout, but was quick to make amends at Morphettville on Saturday.

He travelled on the pace for Jason Holder and powered clear to win the 1250m juvenile contest by three lengths as a hot favourite.

“He’s got an extravagant action and is learning his craft, but I think he’ll come back a nice three year-old,” said co-trainer Andrew Gluyas.

“His two outings have been full of merit so hopefully he can progress to some decent races in the future.”

A modest $40,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Hancox Bloodstock from the Stockwell Thoroughbreds draft, So You Can was bred by Emirates Park.

He is the first winner for Grojsman, an unraced half-sister by Al Maher to Group II winner Benzini from the family of Group I winner Hot Snitzel.

Further back it’s a European family of the highest order featuring Group I superstars such as Park Appeal, Cape Cross, Diktat, Shadayid and Russian Rhythm.

Given the depth of his pedigree, it’s not hard to see So You Can going a very long way next season in the capable hands of Macdonald and Gluyas.

So You Think also featured at Caulfield where progressive gelding Right You Are notched a winning hat-trick after scoring a tenacious short head victory over So you Think filly Librate.

Trained by Mick Price and Mick Kent Jr, Right You Are had won previously at Sandown Hillside and Werribee before stepping up to this open three year-old event over 1600m.

“He’s got a bit to learn but I think we’re just taking him through the grades to capitalise on these $100,000 races - make a horse out of him,” Price said.

“I’m not sure what happens given that the spring is back a bit now, whether he’ll be an early four-year-old, but we’re going to play around with him.

“He settles beautifully for 2000 metres and I think that’s when you’ll see the best part of him.”

Retained to race by his breeders, Right You Are is the second winner from Group III Geelong Cup winner Leica Ding.

So You Think is enjoying his best ever season with over 100 winners including nine stakes-winners with progeny earnings topping $9.1 million.
