Playing God's Kay Cee Returns a Winner and Edges Past $1 million

Mark Smith - Saturday June 6

With the imminent closure of Mungrup Stud, resident stallion Playing God will be looking for a new home and he has a wonderful living advertisement in the Neville Parnham-trained filly Kay Cee.

Making her first start since a career-defining win in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic in December, Kay Cee ended the winning run of the Toronado(IRE) gelding Laverrod in Saturday’s Listed   Raconteur Stakes at Belmont with a hard-fought victory by a head.

“Speedmaps are tricky to work out but I predicted Paddy (Carbery) might lead on Laverrod. He was well rated so I had to keep an eye on him knowing he is a handy horse and would be tough to run down,” winning rider Steve Parnham said.

“I made a move a little earlier than I would have preferred but I always thought she would get there.

“She’s a special horse and she is only going to get better.  She is a bit bigger and stronger this preparation and probably has a bit more of a racing brain on her. She will have just a few runs to keep her mind ticking over and she will come back for the summer, which will be exciting.”

Winner of the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes at Ascot on November 5, Kay Cee advances her record to 5 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 9 starts with earnings of $1,015,000.

A homebred for the Edwards family, Kay Cee is the only winner from two to race out of the lightly raced McFlirt mare Flirt ‘N’ Hope who is a daughter of the popular racemare Lizzy Long Legs whose nine wins included the Group III WATC AJ Scahill Stakes.

Flirt ‘N’ Hope has a 2yo gelding by Red Hot Choice named Red Hot Hope.

She was not covered in 2017 and 2018 before being bred back to Playing God last spring.
