100 for Zoustar

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 31

It took until the last day of the racing season, but Widden Stud’s flagship sire Zoustar became the youngest sire to join the century club this season, when posting his 100th winner at Geelong on Friday following an impressive debut victory for Sweetzou.

Drawn the outside in the field of 12, the John Sadler trained Sweetzou unwound a powerful finish from back in the field to charge home for Jamie Kah and win the 1130m maiden by half a length.

A $300,

000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from the Curraghmore draft for John Sadler Training Services / Suman Hedge Bloodstock, Sweetzou was a successful pinhook having been sourced from the Widden Stud draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $165,000 by Suncroft Bloodstock Ltd.

Sweetzou is the second and final foal of unraced Fastnet Rock mare Sweet Butterfly, a half-sister to stakes-winner City of Song and daughter of stakes-winner Songs of Vienna.

Zoustar racked up his 100 winners from just 201 runners and among those winners are seven stakes-winners of 10 stakes races that have collectively won over $11.1 million in prizemoney.

The best son of Widden Stud’s much missed Northern Meteor, Zoustar has been Champion First Season and Second Season Sire and is also now Champion Third Season Sire, dominating his peers by earnings, winners and stakes-winners.

His current season stakes-winners and their stakes performances THIS SEASON are listed below:

Set to stand this year alongside his Group II winning son Zousain, Zoustar has returned from another successful shuttling trip to Tweenhills Stud in the UK and will cover a stellar book of mares in 2020 at a fee of $121,000.
