One to Watch – Canberra

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 26
David Vandyke produced an impressive debut winner at Canberra on Friday with a commanding victory for a well-bred filly by Mossman, who can certainly get a good filly – think Mossfun, Ofcourseican and Plucky Belle.

Honey CaraAllowed to find her feet back in the field, two year-old filly Honey Cara powered to the line as favourite to win the 1000 metre maiden by a length and three-quarters running away.

A modest $30,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the Vinery Stud draft for Adrian Whittingham, she is the first winner for fledgling racing and breeding group Honeycomb Stud.

Honey Cara was well bought as she comes from a very good family and her first two dams are by champion broodmare sires Zabeel and Canny Lad, who have both produced Group I winners as broodmare sires to Mossman, their daughters delivering his Coolmore Classic winners Plucky Belle and Ofcourseican.

Honey Cara is the second winner for Zazita, a half-sister to stakes-winner Sister Havana from the family of Golden Slipper winner Overreach and Blue Diamond winner Reward for Effort.

Completely free of Danehill blood, she will be an easy mare to mate when her racing days are done.
