Diamond Effort Shines at Caulfield

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 29

Progressive Mossman mare Diamond Effort won her last four races in succession before heading for a spell back in April and returned a winner at Caulfield on Saturday to take out the Group III MRC The Heath (1100m).

Prepared by Clinton McDonald, Diamond Effort won the Listed Hareeba Stakes earlier this year proving herself up to Black Type company and took another step forward with this performance.

Diamond Effort surged late with a well timed run under Ben Melham to win by half a neck over a host of fast finishers.

“She’s a ripping mare that we feel is going places and has improved again this time in,” said McDonald, who will look to up the ante with Diamond Effort naming the Group I Moir Stakes as a possible target.

A $140,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Cornerstone Stud draft for part-owner Dominic Romanelli, Diamond Effort has the impressive record of eight wins from 14 starts with prizemoney in excess of $480,000.

Diamond Effort as a yearling

Diamond Effort is a full sister to Group II winner Second Effort and is the last foal from Geiger Counter (USA) mare Relativity, who is now retired from stud.

She is one of 41 stakes-winners for Vinery Stud’s much missed stalwart sire Mossman, who is also retired from stud duties.
