Australian
owned Starspangledbanner colt Home of the Brave, bought from the 2013 ARQANA
Deauville Yearling Sale, scored an exciting win overnight at The Curragh where
he downed globe-trotting Group I winning sprinter Gordon Lord Byron to win the
Group III Minstrel Stakes.
Group III placed and a winner from three starts at two, Home of the Brave has
gone ahead this year winning first up in the Listed European Free Handicap at
Newmarket before finishing sixth in the Group I English 2,000 Guineas to
Gleneagles and then sixth again to Muhaarar in the Group I Commonwealth Cup at
Royal Ascot.
The Hugo Palmer trained colt led throughout over the seven furlong trip for
James Doyle and ran right away at the finish to win by three and a half lengths
with Gordon Lord Byron, the horse that won the Group I ATC George Ryder Stakes
in 2014, a brave second.
"Home Of The Brave is quite an immature horse which is why he was so lightly
raced as a two-year-old," said Hugo Palmer.
"I thought he would win but I didnĀ“t think he would win like that. He is the
second stakes winning son of Starspangledbanner, so we will try and work from
here to upgrade his value as a stallion.
"The Hungerford Stakes is the next obvious target and the Prix Maurice De
Gheest might be his Group I next year."
With three wins and two placings from seven starts, Home of the Brave has a bright future and is one of three European Group winners for fertility hampered
Starspangledbanner, who stands at Rosemont Stud in Victoria.
He was an 80,000 euro purchase from the Deauville ARQANA Yearling Sale for
Australian syndicate Flemington Bloodstock, which involves Justin Bahen and Troy
Corstens, whose father Leon trained Starspangledbanner before his purchase by
Coolmore.
Home of the Brave is the first winner for Blissful Beat, an unraced half-sister
by Beat Hollow to Group III winners Rashbag and Suggestive.
The current yearling from Blissful Beat, a colt by Exceed and Excel's Group I
winning son Excelebration will be offered at the 2015 ARQANA Yearling Sale next
month as Lot 26.
