Debut Win for Record Priced Lonhro Filly

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 5
An $840,000 Inglis Easter purchase for US agent John Moynihan from the Turangga Farm draft, Lonhro filly Kangarilla Joy is the most expensive filly by her sire ever sold and she's also now a winner after saluting on debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Kangarilla Joy as a yearlingA big powerful bay filly, she cut an impressive figure strolling around the mounting yard and when the gates flew back, Kangarilla Joy showed she also has the ability to match.

Well prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Kangarilla Joy jumped fast to cross from her outside gate and travelled sweetly for Hugh Bowman on the pace, showing a good turn of foot to sprint strongly off the turn.

Challenged late by promising Hinchinbrook filly Edge Away, Kangarilla Joy fought doggedly to win the 1100 metre maiden by a head.

"She'll take a lot of benefit out of that and I think she'll be better if she chases," said Peter Snowden.

Running for US breeder Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Stables, Kangarilla Joy is entered for all the major spring races including the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas, so will be headed into Black Type company sooner rather than later.

"I feel she's up to that level after today, but we'll see how she pulls up," Snowden said.

Bred by Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm, Kangarilla Joy is the third winner for Midnight Joy, a winning Zeditave daughter of Group I winner Midnight Fever from the family of Group I winner Rock Classic.

Midnight Joy has a yearling filly by Charge Forward and Stuart Ramsey will be hoping Kangarilla Joy gains some Black Type as she is due to foal to Lonhro again this spring.
