Juvenile Trial Watch – Eagle Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 29

Four heats for juveniles at Eagle Farm on Tuesday morning included some impressive winners headed by a homebred Shalaa (IRE) filly for Rothfire’s breeders Gleeson Thoroughbreds that bolted away to win in the fastest time of the session.

Trained by Robert Heathcote, as is Rothfire, Shaluna was having her second trial and jumped quickly to take the lead, cruising along and quickening at the finish to win by five lengths, her final 600m run in a super slick 33.12 seconds.

Unlike

Rothfire, who was not accepted for sale as a yearling, Shaluna did make it into the sale ring, passing in shy of her $80,000 reserve at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

Shaluna as a yearling

She is a half-sister to two winners being from Stormy Hussey, a half-sister by Hussonet (USA) to stakes-winner Bridal Hill, whose dam Stormy Hill is a Group II winning daughter of Triple Oaks winner November Rain.

Arrowfield Stud’s Shalaa has made a promising start with his first European runners that include 13 winners headed by three stakes horses.

A Champion 2YO by Invincible Spirit, Shalaa is back at Arrowfield this spring at a fee of $33,000.
