The 2026 NZB National Yearling Sales (January 25-29) offers buyers the cream of the New Zealand crop and with the sale starting this Sunday, we’ve gone looking for pedigrees of interest for a myriad of reasons.

Lightly raced Proisir filly Fairy Dream put herself in the picture for more success this season winning the Group III Desert Gold Stakes at just her fourth start to become the 24th stakes-winner for her sire.

A $360,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase, Fairy Dream comes from a prolific Kiwi Black Type family and has two close relations to be offered in this year’s sale.

Lot 380 Filly Almanzor (Fr) x Dottie Dee by Brazen Beau – Cambridge Stud

Second foal of a stakes-placed half-sister to Fairy Dream.

Lot 478 Filly Bivouac x Hot in High Heels, by High Chaparral (IRE) – Blandford Lodge

Third foal of a winning half-sister to Fairy Dream and stakes-placed Dottie Dee, dam of the previous yearling.

Satono Aladdin (Jpn) has his best ever crop of yearlings to be offered.

Deep Impact stallion Satono Aladdin (Jpn) is the equal most represented sire in Karaka 2026 and Aussie buyers were given a warm up for the main event when three of his stock sold last week at the Gold Coast for up to $575,000.

His best nick so far has come with fellow Rich Hill Stud stallion Pentire (GB) with his daughters producing seven runners by Satono Aladdin and five of them have won headed by dual Group I Oaks (Australian and New Zealand) winner Pennyweka and Group III winner Lupo Solitario.

There are two yearlings in Book 1 bred this way:

Lot 192 Filly Satono Aladdin (Jpn) x Threepence, by Pentire (GB) – Ardsley Stud

Full sister to Pennyweka and dam has had four winners from five foals to race with this yearling the first for her dam by Satono Aladdin since the Oaks queen came along.

Lot 321 Filly Satono Aladdin (Jpn) x Blue Rhythm, by Pentire (GB) – Rich Hill Stud

First foal of an unraced sister to stakes-winner Sacred Rhythm from an Australian speed female family tracing back to blue hen Humour via the Zasu branch of the family with Aussie Group winners on the page such as Any Rhythm, Bella Martini and Upbeat.

Karaka 2026 marks the 100th National Yearling Sale at Karaka, selling 25 - 29 January. A century of thoroughbred excellence has shaped the National Yearling Sale, from guineas to dollars, Trentham to Karaka and Wrightsons to NZB.

All yearlings purchased are eligible for the Karaka Millions Series featuring the $1m TAB Karaka Millions 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1.5m TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m) as well as the NZB Mega Maiden Bonus Series with $1m in bonuses up for grabs across 40 maiden races each season.
