In Swoop’s Courageous Arc Second has them Cheering Across the Tasman

Mark Smith - Sunday October 4

Plenty to cheer about at the Taylor family’s historic Trelawney Stud overnight with the 3yo colt In Swoop (Adlerflug), a half-brother to Trelawney’s Group III winning Galileo mare Igraine (GER), running the race of his life to be narrowly beaten in the  Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Then Fastnet Rock’s daughter One Master conquers the Group 1 the Group I Prix de la Foret for an unprecedented third time.

Why was that significant?

Well three weeks back, Igraine (GER) had her first foal, a gorgeous Fastnet Rock filly born at Segenhoe Stud.

Igraine was an inspired 65,000 guineas purchase by Paul Moroney on the Taylors' behalf at the 2017 Tattersalls Broodmare Sale.

The 4yo mare had one win and two Listed placings in Germany but would build on that in Australia and New Zealand, winning the Group II Counties Cup and Listed Caloundra Cup while banking over $300,000.

The lightly raced In Swoop (IRE) has been in fine form this year. He won the Group 1 Deutsches Derby in July and prepped for the Arc with a second to Mogul in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris over the Arc course and distance on September 13.

In Swoop and Igraine are out of the Group 1 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) winner Iota, a daughter of Danehill’s former shuttler Tiger Hill, who had already produced the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Bayern winner Ito, a full brother to In Swoop, who was honoured as the Champion Older Horse in Germany in 2015 (Long).

There are another two farms in New Zealand cheering on the performance of In Swoop.

Paul Moroney purchased another half-sister, Indah (GER) (Dabirsim), for Marg and Murray Hardy and Paddy Preston of the Sunlight Trust.

Indah won races at Matamata and Te Aroha and is due to foal to Vadamos (Monsun).

Yet another half-sister, the unraced Giant’s Causeway mare Iojo, promises great things for Kevin and Jo Hickman’s Valachi Downs.

She already has four winners in France and Germany including the stakes performers In Memory (Reliable Man) and Ison (Wiener Walzer).

Iojo is due to foal to Zacinto (GB).
