Emerging Talent Offered at Ready to Run Sale

New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale at Karaka features an outstanding selection of up-and-coming sires with exciting racetrack potential.

Sweynesse

Novara Park’s Sweynesse topped New Zealand’s first-season sire standings in 2019-20, and he has started his second season on a similar note.

Himself a Group Three winner and placed at Group One level, Sweynesse has sired four winners to date including Bonita Aurelia (NZ) in the Group Three Taranaki 2YO Classic (1200m) and Only Words (NZ) in the Listed Wanganui Guineas (1200m).

There are eight Sweynesse two-year-olds in the Ready to Run Sale catalogue, including:

Lot 24 is out of Post Thyme (NZ) (Postponed), who was a Listed winner at Ellerslie and Caulfield.The dam of Lot 50 is a half-sister to Singapore Champion 2YO Be Bee (NZ) (Showcasing).Lot 93 is out of a half-sister to the multiple Singapore stakes winner Fat Kid (NZ) (Handsome Ransom).Lot 191 is a half-brother to the 2018-19 Joint New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Imelda Mary (NZ) (Ferlax), who won the Group Two Royal Stakes (2000m) and Sir Tristram Fillies’ Classic (2000m).Lot 284 is out of stakes-winning mare Madonna Mia (NZ) (Red Clubs).

Valachi Downs stallion Vespa (NZ) was Champion New Zealand 2YO in 2013-14, winning the Group One Diamond Stakes (1200m) and the $1m Karaka Million 2YO (1200m). He won another two black-type events as an older horse and placed in the Group One Waikato Sprint (1400m) and Easter Handicap (1600m).

Vespa has so far sired three winners, and two of his progeny have performed at black-type level. Kelly Renee (NZ) placed in last season’s Group One Sistema Stakes (1200m) and Group Two Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (1200m). Piaggio (NZ) was a winner at two and placed in the Group Three Taranaki 2YO Classic (1200m).

Vespa has two progeny in the Ready to Run Sale catalogue:

• Lot 35 is out of a daughter of Group Two winner and Group One-placed Divine Rebel (NZ) (Don Eduardo).
• Lot 71 is out of Smitten Kitten (NZ) (Volksraad), who won eight races including the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes (1400m) and placed in another seven stakes races. She is the dam of three winners including Pippi Rea (NZ) (Pins), a placegetter in the Group Three Stewards’ Stakes (1200m) and Listed Pegasus Stakes (1000m).

Windsor Park Stud shuttle stallion Charm Spirit was New Zealand’s champion first-season sire in 2018-19. He has sired 150 winners from 286 runners worldwide, with eight individual stakes winners headed by Aretha (NZ) and Fascino (NZ) at Group Two level. Scorpz (NZ) won at Group Three and Listed level last season and placed in the Group One New Zealand Derby (2400m).

Charm Spirit is the sire of four two-year-olds in the Ready to Run Sale catalogue, including:

• Lot 108 is a half-brother to six winners including Cismontane (NZ) (High Chaparral), who won the Group Three Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington.
• Lot 173 comes from Cambridge Stud’s exceptional Eight Carat (Pieces of Eight) family. Second dam Chimeara (Danehill) placed at stakes level and produced Group One winner De Beers (NZ) (Quest for Fame), while her siblings include Viking Ruler (Danehill), Lovetrista (Rock of Gibraltar), Kempinsky (Danehill) and Diamond Like (Danehill). Their dam is the blue-blooded multiple Group One winner Tristalove (NZ) (Sir Tristram).

Proisir

Rich Hill Stud’s Proisir has made a strong start to his stud career with 31 winners from 76 runners to date, headed by Riodini (NZ) at Group Three level. Riodini also collected a Group One placing in this month’s Epsom Handicap (1600m).

Vancooga (NZ) and Feel the Rush (NZ) finished second and third respectively in the Group One New Zealand Oaks (2400m) earlier this year, while Levante (NZ) has won four of her five starts and was an unlucky second in the Group Two Wellington Guineas (1400m).

Proisir has two progeny in the Ready to Run Sale catalogue:

• Lot 209 is from the family of Group One performers Armstrong (NZ) (Classic Fame), Three Chimneys (NZ) (Generous) and Dee and Gee (NZ) (Darci Brahma).
• Lot 216 is a half-brother to the stakes winner Mae Jinx (NZ) (Stravinsky).

El Roca

Standing at Westbury Stud, El Roca has sired 30 winners from 71 runners to date. Three of his progeny have performed up to stakes level, headed by the Group One Levin Classic (1600m) winner Travelling Light (NZ).

El Roca has 11 sons or daughters set to go through the ring during the Ready to Run Sale, including:

• The dam of Lot 67 is a full-sister to the three-time Group One winner Sangster (NZ) (Savabeel).
• Lot 76 is a half-brother to Group One New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) winner La (Bella) Diosa (NZ) (So You Think) and three other stakes performers.
• This colt’s dam, Star Affair (NZ) (Star Way), won at Group Two level and is a half-sister to the multiple Group One winner and black-type producer The Jewel (NZ) (O’Reilly).
• Lot 137 is a grandson of Group One winner Imananabaa (Anabaa).
• Lot 238 is out of a half-sister to Group One winner Ruud Awakening (Bernardini).
• Lot 293 is a half-sister to stakes winner Not Now Norman (King Cugat).

No Nay Never

Coolmore Stud sensation No Nay Never has soared to a service fee of €175,000 in Ireland. He has sired 149 winners from 264 runners, with 26 individual stakes winners.

Ten Sovereigns, Alcohol Free and Brooke have all won at Group One level, while the unbeaten Need I Say More has made a big early impact in New Zealand with victories in the Group Three Matamata Slipper (1200m) and Northland Breeders’ Stakes (1200m).

Buyers will have the chance to buy two No Nay Never two-year-olds at the Ready to Run Sale:

• Lot 38 comes from the family of Queensland Oaks (2400m) winner Vouvray (NZ) (Zabeel) and fellow Group One winners A Touch of Ruby (NZ) (Pins) and Loire (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).
• Lot 275 is a half-brother to Group Three VRC Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) placegetter Succeed Indeed (Akeed Mofeed). Their dam Lucky Morna (Ferocity) also placed at Group Three level.

Due to travel restrictions enforced by COVID-19, international buyers are encouraged to participate via the new user-friendly online bidding platform that will debut at the Ready to Run Sale.

NZ-based agents are also available to complete inspections on behalf of international buyers at the Breeze Ups, on farm parades and at the sale complex, with phone bidding another welcomed option by buyers to ensure they do not miss out on the opportunity to secure a two-year-old at the number one sale of its kind.

With significant importance placed on Breeze Up footage for buyers due to Covid-19 travel restrictions this year, NZB is pleased to announce this year’s clips will be extended to include additional footage prior to the 200 metre mark where gallops have previously been filmed from, with the last 200 metres of their work also filmed and timed. Clips will be available to view online from 15 October and streamed on Trackside, Sky Racing and Racing.com.
