Darby Racing Strikes Again With Bargain Priced All American Juvenile

Mark Smith - Saturday November 28
Just a week after Darby Racing's All American filly Yankee Rose made it two from two at Rosehill Gardens, the syndicator's colours were carried to victory by the All American colt Rampage who was making his career debut in Saturday's John Paraskevas Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley.

While Yankee Rose was a $10,000 purchase, Rampage came at double the cost at the Inglis Classic Summer Yearling sale.

Ridden by Luke Currie for trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Rampage was quickly away but was caught three wide. He bravely stuck to his guns to run down the Sepoy filly Giroux in the final 50 metres to win by a long-head with Snitzel colt Legerity a length back in third. (photo Grant Courtney)

"Scott Darby has really found a bargain here," Hayes said.

"I think he is a smart horse, now he will go to Sydney for a $500,000 race (Inglis Nursery) in a couple of weeks.

"He will be hard to beat because he was three wide the trip and he's got a lot of improvement left in him.

"His father (All American) won first-up at the Valley so I hope it's a good omen, hope he's as good as that."

Purchased out of the Denns Park draft, Rampage is the third foal of the Danzero mare Sleight Of Hand, a half-sister to Group II MVRC Crystal Mile winner Sonic Quest (Quest For Fame) and to the dam of Chase The Rainbow whose major win also came at Moonee Valley in the Group II Stutt Stakes.
