Let’s Take An Updated Closer Look

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 13

Earlier this year we ran a series of very popular stories titled ‘Closer Look’ delving into the crop by crop analysis of our champion sires and recent results have given us cause to update and revisit the story on Written Tycoon, who is enjoying a ground breaking season.

When Arrowfield Stud announced the retirement of Not a Single Doubt earlier in the year they were faced with a big gap in their roster, so moved quickly to replace him with Victoria’s champion sire Written Tycoon and what a master stroke that’s turned out to be.

Click for more information.

Written Tycoon has been a slow burn sire with a few seasons in Queensland interspersed with his years at stud in Victoria, but in 2016 off the back of Capitalist winning the Golden Slipper his fee jumped markedly to $49,500.

Foals conceived in that year are now three year-olds and they include his Group I Guineas winning duo of Ole Kirk and Odeum, who are cut from a different cloth to his previous Group I winners, all of them sprinters.

Ole Kirk and Odeum have given a new dimension to Written Tycoon, in announcing him also as a sire of quality milers and that raises the bar for him considerably, so if you are booked in to him this year at a fee of $77,000 enjoy it… because he’ll be standing for more next year!
