Canterbury Winner for Grahame Begg

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 16
Retired Randwick trainer Grahame Begg featured at Canterbury on Wednesday as a winning co-owner when three year-old Mossman filly Mossin' Around scored a shock debut win at long odds over a field featuring a bevy of expensive royally bred fillies.

Mossin' AroundShe settled back in the field for Tye Angland and charged to the line late to run straight past the bluebloods and win the 1200 metre maiden by half a head.

The filly had shown little in two trials this preparation, but her trainer John Thompson revealed she had jumped out of the ground since then.

"I'm pretty casual with my horses starting off and Grahame actually asked me if I thought she was worth going on with after the last trial, but I got a bit more serious with her after that and she's improved out of sight," said John Thompson.

"It's quite a badge of honour to have a colleague give you a horse, so it's great to see her win.

"Grahame picked her out at the sales, she's not very big, but a nice filly."

Mossin' Around was a $30,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Turangga Farm draft for Grahame Begg and is the second winner for Rhythmic Affair, an Octagonal daughter of Group I winner Rhythmic Charm.
