Little Fish are Sweet for Purple Sector

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 3

Kiwi bred five year-old Purple Sector carried the famous colours of the late Dato Tan Chin Nam’s Think Big Stud to victory on Cup Day at Flemington in the Listed VRC Furphy Plate (1800m).

Trained by John Thompson, the Pins gelding won the Group III BRC Rough Habit Stakes as a three year-old, but failed to build on that potential last season so was gelded.

Third up from a spell at Flemington following a second at Rosehill and a good win at Randwick on October 17, Purple Sector finished hard with a well-timed run for Craig Williams to win by a neck as favourite.

A modest $60,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for DGR Thoroughbreds from the Trelawney Stud draft, Purple Sector has four wins and six placings from 21 starts with earnings over $400,000.

Purple Sector was bought by Duncan Ramage of DGR Thoroughbreds as a yearling.

He is the best of five winners from blue-blooded Zabeel mare Eden Valley, a sister to Group I winner Hill of Grace and Group II winner Renewable.
