Straight off the track and into the sales ring with a second Breeder’s Cup Distaff on her CV, Monomoy Girl (Tapizar - Drumette by Henny Hughes) was sold to Spendthrift Farm for $US9.5 million at the Fasig-Tipton November ‘Night Of The Stars’ Sale on Sunday.
The Champion 3YO Filly in USA in 2018 following wins in the Kentucky Oaks, Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Acorn Stakes, Coaching Club American Oaks and Ashland Stakes, Monomoy Girl was sidelined in 2019 through injury. She bounced back this year to win all four of her starts, advancing her record to 13 wins and two seconds from 15 starts with earnings of $4,426,818.
In good news for fans the rising 6yo daughter of Tapizar will be given her chance to build on her record as she will be sent back to Brad Cox and kept in training for another year.

Than Ready (USA) won over a lot of fans in his long and successful career at Vinery and his star shines just as bright north of the equator.
His six-time Grade I winner Rushing Fall (More Than Ready–Autumnal by Forestry) was hammered down to Jamie McCalmont, as agent for Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier, for $5.5 million while another of More Than Ready’s multiple Group 1 stars Uni (GB) (More Than Ready–Unaided, by Dansili) was purchased by Peter Brant for $4.1 million.
The champion Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute–Diva Delite, by Repent), a dual Group 1 winner was purchased by her part-owner Chuck Allen for $5 million. The 5yo mare has banked $7,516,520 to be the highest-earning U.S. dirt mare in history.
Spendthrift was far from done after purchasing the $9.5 million session-topper. They added the three-time Grade I winner Bast (Uncle Mo–Laffina, by Arch) in foal to Justify (USA) for $4.2 million, dual Grade I winner She’s A Julie (Elusive Quality–Kydd Gloves, by Dubai Millenium) for $3 million, multiple Grade I-winner Got Stormy (Get Stormy–Super Phoebe, by Malabar Gold) for $2.75 million, stakes-winner and Grade II-placed Motion Emotion (Take Charge Indy- Golden Motion by Smart Strike) for $800,000, Grade II winner Exuberance (Archarcharch- Wild Forest Cat, by D’wildcat) for $600,000.
Another prominant owner taking several million doallr lots home is Katsumi Yoshida. His most expensive purchase was $2.2 million for Group 1-placed Miss Besilu (Medaglia d’Oro-Quiet Dance, by Quiet America), a half-sister to Horse Of The Year Saint Liam and in foal to champion stallion Into Mischief).
