Farewell Arborea

Mark Smith - Thursday November 12

The 1993 VATC One Thousand Guineas and Victoria Oaks winner Arborea has passed away at the age of 30 at Segenhoe Stud.

Trained by Clarry Conners for Newhaven Park, Arborea won eight and placed in six of her 32 starts with earnings of $837,456.

In addition to her Group 1 double, the daughter of Imperial Prince (IRE) won a pair of Group IIs A Group III and a Listed Stakes.

She was at her best in the spring in Melbourne in 1993 reeling off three consecutive wins in the VATC One Thousand Guineas, Wakeful Stakes and Victoria Oaks.

Segenhoe Stud’s Peter O’Brien described Arborea as racing royalty.

After having three foals, Arborea was sent to the US in 1999 before being repatriated in 2006.

Her first foal Delta Form (Marscay) was a stakes-winner in South Africa before winning the Grade II Del Mar Hcp in the US and was third in the Grade 1 Belmont Turf Classic.

Two of Arborea’s US-born fillies produced stakes-winners. Sunday Sensation is the dam of the Champion Turf Male in Peru in 2013-14, Szumul while Attessa (USA) is the dam of the South African Group III winner High Seas Beauty.

The first filly foal of Arborea was the winning Last Tycoon filly Tycoon Tess. She is the dam of the stakes-winner Tai Tai Tess (Magic Albert) who has been a goldmine at stud with three consecutive foals by I Am Invincible making $2 million, $1.3 million and $825,000.

The second filly foal of Arborea, Delicate Choice (Last Tycoon) is the dam of Group II winner and stallion Drumbeats (Redoute’s Choice).

Pensioned in 2013, Arborea has been in the ownership of John and Deb Camilleri since being repatriated in 2006.
