So You Think Sandown Stakes Double

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 14

So You Think started the day well at Sandown with a stakes quinella after Carif and Realm of Flowers went one - two in the Listed MRC Sandown Cup (3200m) and kept the winning run going when So Si Bon won the Group III MRC Eclipse Stakes (1800m).

The Lindsay Park trained seven year-old had been very close in recent starts and finally got his turn to shine with a tenacious nose win for Mark Zahra.

Co-trainer Ben Hayes thought So Si Bon was a big chance after he flashed home late.

"I think that’s how he wins - he wins by the barest of margins. He got there well," he said.

"Mark did a great job. Just let him balance, pulled out and he was too strong.

"He’s a great horse because he loves being in-training. He’s been in for a very long time. If he pulls up well we wouldn’t be against backing him up next week in the Ballarat Cup. It could be an option for us."

A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his original trainer Robbie Laing from the Newgate Farm draft, So Si Bon has the overall record of six wins and 14 placings from 58 starts with earnings topping $1.5million.

He was bred by Morning Rise Stud and is one of two winners from former smart stakes winning juvenile Black Minx, who died in 2014.

So Si Bon is one of 30 stakes-winners for So You think, who has enjoyed a great season to date, holding down a spot in the Top 10 sires by earnings with five stakes-winners and earnings topping $4million.
