More Stake Success for American Pharoah Colt

Tara Madgwick - Sunday November 29

A Saratoga Grade III winner for American Pharoah earlier in the year, Turned Aside added a second stakes win to his record in the $100,000 Listed Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship Stakes on Saturday.

Turned Aside was a brilliant winner in a Listed 6f sprint on turf.

Racing over six furlongs on the Aqueduct turf against his elders, Turned Aside raced just behind the leaders and hit the line hard to win by a length and a quarter and has now won two stakes in his last three starts.

“He broke good and he's a very nice horse,” said jockey Jose Lezcano. “He can run on anything. I got my position and let him grow into the race little by little. I let the two inside horses go and when it was time to go, I let him pick it up.”

Bred by the late Paul Pompa and trained for his Estate by Linda Rice, Turned Aside now has four wins in nine starts for $241,967 in earnings.

He is the only runner out of the Grade III-placed Sustained, who hails from the family of Grade II winner Good And Tough. The family also includes Listed winner and stakes producer Flashy Four and Grade II winner Desert Party.

American Pharoah is currently in Australia and has his first Southern Hemisphere bred two year-olds running here this season.
