First Stakes Win for Tavistock's She's Alright

Mark Smith - Saturday December 5

Taking on stakes company for the first time in her career, the five-year-old Tavistock mare She’s Alight came out on top in a driving finish to the Listed Ascend - Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) for fillies and mares at Ascot on Saturday.

Ridden by Patrick Carbery for trainer Alan Mathews, She’s Alight defeated the 4yo Redoute’s Choice mare Special Choice by a half-head with a further head back to the 4yo Puissance de Lune (IRL) mare Chantrea, who lost her unbeaten record but few friends with her fighting third.

Purchased by John Chalmers Bloodstock Services for $65,000 out of the Cambridge Stud draft at the 2017 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, She’s Alight advanced her record to seven wins, one second and three thirds from 19 starts with earnings of $194,720.

by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, She’s Alight could hardly have a more Cambridgecentric family.

A sister to the stakes-placed Midnitemagicman, she is one of seven winners from as many to race out of the Kepper mare Keep Alight.

A $200,000 yearling, Keep Alight is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas winner Danske and a half-sister to dual Listed winner Eagle Rhythm (Rhythm).

Keep Alight is a daughter of the outstanding Sir Tristram (IRE) mare Tristalight the winner of the Group 1 Australasian Oaks and Group 1 South Australian Oaks.

Cambridge Stud consigned a sister to She’s Alight at the 2020 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale where she was knocked down to Platinum Thoroughbreds for $45,000.

Not covered in 2019, the 17yo Keep Alight was served by Tarzino last year.

She’s Alright becomes the 24th stakes-winner for Cambridge Stud’s sadly missed Tavistock.
