Five heats for juveniles at Canterbury on Tuesday morning produced some interesting winners including the Group III ATC Breeders Plate winner Shaquero and a $1million colt by I Am Invincible.
The son of first crop sire Shalaa (IRE) did everything right for James McDonald to win his trial comfortably under a hold after leading all the way.
A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase that is favourite for the 2YO Classic, Shaquero’s progress will be followed closely by Tyreel Stud, who will offer his half-sister by Hellbent as Lot 305 at the 2020 Magic Millions.
Running slightly faster time in winning his heat was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained I Am Invincible colt Journalism, who improved markedly at his second trial.
He drew near the outside at his previous trial at Rosehill last month and travelled deep and back in the field throughout before working home for second.
This time jumping from the inside, Journalism was urged to go forward by Brenton Avdulla to lead comfortably and looked very professional lengthening to the line to win by more than a length.
A $1million Magic Millions purchase from the Rosemont Stud draft for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Journalism is the second foal of Group I winning Northern Meteor mare Amanpour, who was trained by Waterhouse.
Amanpour was bought by Rosemont Stud at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $1.5million and they retain a share in the ownership of Journalism, who runs in the colours of Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock Australia.
Also winning for the Waterhouse Bott stable was Snitzel colt Gulf of Saros, a full brother to Group I winner Sweet Idea and Group II winner Showtime.
He led all the way in the Sun Bloodstock colours to win by more than a length and Arrowfield Stud will offer his full brother at Magic Millions as Lot 320.
