First Winner for Americain

Swettenham Stud's Melbourne Cup winner Americain (USA) went to stud first in the Northern Hemisphere in Kentucky and produced his first winner on the weekend with a debut victory for two year-old filly Folk Magic at Woodbine.

AmericainPrepared by Brian Lynch, Folk Magic tracked the leaders in fourth position and accelerated smartly to the line albeit greenly to win the six furlong maiden on turf by three and three-quarter lengths. Watch her win here, it's worth a look! 

Folk Magic is the first winner for unraced Johannesburg mare African Charm, a half-sister to German stakes-winner Chan Chan.

Americain's ability to sire a juvenile winner at six furlongs will buoy the confidence of Victorian breeders, who have supported the top class son of Dynaformer with much enthusiasm since he retired to Swettenham in 2013.

The first Australian progeny of Americain will start racing in the new season and sold for up to $130,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale this year.

He stands at a fee of $13,750 this year.
