What Price for Pippie?

Media Release - Sunday January 31

Elite dual G1-winning mare and graduate of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Pippie (Written Tycoon) is among the first confirmed entries for the 2021 Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

After announcing herself a top-level racing prospect from the outset of her career with a 5L debut victory, Pippie has raced against – and defeated – the best Australian sprinters on offer in some of our leading G1 sprint races.

The lightly raced 5YO won the first of two G1s to date early last year when taking out the prestigious Oakleigh Plate over 1100m at Caulfield.

She returned in the spring to win the G1 Moir Stakes in September.

During her career to date Pippie has defeated the likes of Bivouac, Trekking, Tofane, Bella Vella, Hey Doc, Hanseatic, Exceedance, Mystic Journey, Scales of Justice, Amphitrite and Aloisia.

Pippie (pictured) has raced just 13 times for 6 wins and 2 minor placings and $1,221,950 in prizemoney.

That overall career record, combined with her physique and breeding, makes her a rare and highly sought-after acquisition for any global breeding operation.

Pippie is being targeted at further G1 glory this Autumn with the Lightning Stakes at Flemington and The Galaxy at Rosehill.

Managing owner Glenn Heran said: “She is a spectacular mare who is up there with the fastest racehorses in the world and she is a delight to have around in terms of her relaxed nature and temperament.

“She is a daughter of Written Tycoon and I think it’s fair to say there is no better-performing stallion at the moment than Written Tycoon and she is right up there at the top of that list.

“She’s made a name for herself as being a world-class sprinter and I have no doubt she will also be a world-class broodmare.’’

The 2021 Chairman’s Sale will be held at Riverside Stables on Friday May 7.

The Inglis Chairman’s Sale has generated extraordinary results over the last 2 years with 8 fillies or mares sold for $1m or more including Maastricht who sold for $2.25m in 2019 and In Her Time who sold for $2m in 2020, a record Australasian price for a breeding proposition of her age.

“We are very proud of what the Chairman’s Sale has become since its inception a few years ago and we are excited by the prospect of further enhancing it in 2021 as a sale and a spectacle,” Inglis’ General Manager of Bloodstock Sales and Marketing Sebastian Hutch said.

“There is no better sale, arguably in the world, in terms of delivering bespoke, targeted promotion of catalogued lots and it’s borne out in the results with race fillies and mares averaging over $545,000 and pregnant mares averaging over $405,000 across the last 2 renewals.

“When we have been given the opportunity, we have worked exceptionally hard to deliver outstanding results for our clients and the fact that 3 of the 4 highest-priced pregnant mares in Australia in the last 2 years have been sold at the Chairman’s Sale is a testament to the quality of the sale and the work of our team.

“The timing and the convenience of the sale are very significant factors, particularly for pregnant mares and we are looking forward to working with clients to deliver another outstanding group of mares for the 2021 renewal.’’

Entry forms for the 2021 Chairman’s Sale will be available in the coming weeks and anyone who wishes to discuss opportunities to participate in the sale are encouraged to contact a member of the Inglis Bloodstock Team.
