The 15-year-old daughter of Desert Sun owned by Rick Jamieson's Gilgai Farm was in foal to Written Tycoon but was euthanised last week.

The unbeaten Black Caviar was the first foal of Helsinge followed by Moshe, now at stud, followed by Group I winner All Too Hard, also now at stud. Helsinge was named Australian Broodmare Of The Year and her offspring topped the Sydney Easter yearling sale three years in a row.

Helsinge's last living foal is the unraced three-year-old Brigite, by Casino Prince, still owned by Jamieson who also has Naturale, a four-year-old sister to Black Caviar.

Bloodstock advisor Peter Ford purchased Helsinge as an un-named three-year-old in a supplementary catalogue at an Inglis sale in Sydney in 2005.

He explained how she got her name.

"She got back to the farm and the staff called her 'Like Billyo" and Rick said she can't be called that and put his finger on a map of Scandinavia and it landed on the village of Helsinge," Ford said.

"It's been an amazing ride through Black Caviar and All Too Hard - I don't think we will see a horse do what Black Caviar did and it's just a tragedy for Rick and Australian breeding in general.

"It's a privilege to have been involved and to find a mare like her was amazing for me."
