Sean Buckley’s Ultra Thoroughbreds, who bred current champion sprinter Nature Strip, were named overnight as the farm under investigation by Racing Victoria for embryo transfer of thoroughbred foals which is strictly banned by the Australian Studbook.
Common practice for other breeds of performance horses in Australia, embryo transfer is forbidden in thoroughbreds, but is alleged to have occurred with both former Australian Horse of the Year Miss Andretti, a notoriously difficult breeder, and now 20 year -old Strikeline, the dam of Nature Strip.
It is believed a filly out of Miss Andretti and a colt out of Strikeline were born last year by the Ultra Thoroughbreds sire Addictive Nature, but foaled from surrogate mares.
