Deep Field Sprinter Wins HK Bonus

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 24

Progressive Deep Field sprinter Sky Field graduated to Class One company at Happy Valley on Wednesday evening earning a lucrative bonus for connections.

Sky Field charged to the line to score a head win in the 1000m dash, delighting trainer Caspar Fownes as the four year-old collected a HK$1,500,000 High Achievement Bonus for winning a Class 1 contest before reaching the age of five.

“He’s still learning, but he’s a good horse. Once he starts to really chill with maturity, he’ll be a lot of fun,” Fownes said.

“I’m very happy to get that result for the owners, it’s a massive win for them because they get the $1.5 million bonus with it as well, so it’s just magic.

“He’s still got it ahead of him but it’s exciting when you know he’s got a massive engine.

“He’s a triple-figure (rating) horse for sure. By the end of the season, he’ll be into triple figures and we’ll have something to look forward to in December.”

A $175,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from the Trelawney Stud draft for Mr D Kwan, Sky Field has the overall record of four wins and two placings from nine starts.

He is the fifth winner from Laravissante, a half-sister by O’Reilly to Hong Kong Group I winner The Duke.

Newgate Farm’s Deep Field is riding high at present having sired his first Group I winner last weekend when Portland Sky dead heated in the Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate.
