Two New Board Members for NSW Racehorse Owners Association

Media Release - Monday March 1

The NSW Racehorse Owners’ Association has hit the ground running for 2021, recruiting two new Board members, both of whom contribute valuable business experience coupled with passion and enthusiasm for horse racing.

“We are thrilled to welcome Karin and Brad as Directors,” said NSWROA President, Tony Mitevski. “The Association is keen to make a firmer footprint on the NSW racing industry and these appointments will strengthen and add value to our Board. Protecting and furthering the rights and status of owners, the life blood of racing, is our main objective.

“Racing’s Night of Champions is of course our flagship event and we also hold various other racing related functions per year.  Our aim is to have as many NSW racehorse owners, no matter how big or small, join the Association to fortify our position in the industry.”

Dr Karin Attebo

After watching Black Caviar race at Randwick in 2011, Karin bought into her first racehorse in 2012. She has been lucky enough to have several city winners and beyond. While she is a part owner in current star Anders, Grey Lion has been a particular favourite, running in the Melbourne Cup in 2016 and still racing with success at the age of 9 years.

Dr Karin Attebo

Karin enjoys all aspects of owning a racehorse. Apart from attending race days, she enjoys trackwork (even if it means getting up at 4am), visiting her horses at the stables or when spelling, talking to her trainers and pre-trainers and watching the miracle of foals being born from her broodmares.

Her medical training as an ophthalmologist helps her to understand the veterinary side of horse racing.

Karin joined the Board as she is eager to help provide a better experience for owners. She is also passionate about horse welfare during and after racing. She currently owns a retired Thoroughbred for pleasure riding, who is living his best life at her property south of Sydney.

Mr Brad McDonnell

Brad is a member of Team McDonnell, a family syndicate heavily involved in breeding and racing. The McDonnell family has enjoyed great success, including Sebring’s Golden Slipper and Sire’s Produce wins, and Fiorente’s Melbourne Cup and Australian Cup successes. Other Group winners include Glencadam Gold, who won the Metropolitan at Royal Randwick in 2012. Each of these horses was honoured at Racing’s Night of Champions in their respective years.

Brad McDonnell

More recently the brilliant mare, Cool Passion, carried the family colours to multiple Group successes.

For the last 14 years, Brad has been an owner and CEO of Entire Travel Group, an Australian based travel business with experiences across the world. Brad is a Board Member of the Australian Council of Tour Operators (CATO) and an Ambassador for the ASX Refinitiv Charity Foundation, which runs Australia’s largest charity race day event, most recently run at Rosehill Gardens in 2019. Prior to the travel industry, Brad was a Management Consultant at Accenture, a leading global professional services company.

Brad looks forward to working with the Board to develop and expand the membership by delivering exciting opportunities for NSWROA members.
