Strong Debut Expected from Capitalist Filly

Media Release - Tuesday March 16

The Lance Noble-trained La Capita will make her raceday debut at Matamata on Wednesday in the Tokoroa Club (INC) 1200 for two-year-olds.

The Capitalist filly, who races in the gold and black chequered silks of Cambridge Stud proprietors Brendan and Jo Lindsay, has won her only trial start to date when contesting an 800m heat at Rotorua earlier this month.

Capitalist has three runners in the Golden Slipper and is the sire of La Capita.

“Her trial at Rotorua was good,” Noble said. “It was her first trial and she showed a bit of speed and she won quite nicely.

“Having had the first trial, I usually like to give them two, she was pretty professional and with Matamata being left-handed, the same as Rotorua, we thought we would have a go.”

La Capita was an $85,000 purchase out of Ardsley Stud’s 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft and is out of a sister to Group Two winning stallion Krupt.

Stablemate Dotti Dee will also step out on Wednesday, and like La Capita, won her trial heat at Rotorua a fortnight ago.

The daughter of Brazen Beau had three starts in Australia, running second in the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on debut, and then finishing unplaced in her next two efforts.

“She is a horse that has come back from Australia. Her form tapered off bit there,” Noble said.

“She won quite nicely in her trial and has trained on well. In what looks like a pretty open race we are expecting her to go quite well.”

Meanwhile, Noble is eyeing a trip to Australia with the multiple stakes-place Bavella who finished third in the Gr.3 King’s Plate (1200m) at Ellerslie earlier this month.

“We were thrilled with that run,” Noble said. “It was her first run in a while and she couldn’t have gone any better.

“We are just weighing up our options. There is a possibility she might head to Sydney for a fillies and mares Group Two on the 10th (of April).” - NZ Racing Desk
