Fastnet Rock's Park Avenue Goes Two for Two

Mark Smith - Saturday May 29

Made a Breednet ‘One To Watch’ following a successful career debut at Wyong on May 13, Fastnet Rock gelding Park Avenue made it two for two with a fast-finishing win over 1100m at Randwick on Saturday.

Ridden by Jean Van Overmeire for Richard and Michael Freedman, Park Avenue jumped well but was allowed to drift back searching for some cover. By the time they made the home turn, Park Avenue was back second last. He was eased out to make his run down the centre of the track, keeping up a strong gallop to defeat the Winning Rupert filly Winning Verse by a half-head.

The favourite Sacred Field was a half-length back in third at his career debut. The son of Deep Field has been a favourite of barrier trial watchers and is sure to be improved by the run

uo;Michael has always had a high opinion of this guy,” Van Overmeire said.

“He gallops well at home and I’m happy that he has come to the races two times and performed.

“He has a lot of upside and will get over further in distance. Maturity is still to come - the penny has not dropped completely yet, and once that happens, I think he will be a very smart horse.”

A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase by his trainers out of the Segenhoe draft, Park Avenue runs for a syndicate that includes his breeders Segenhoe Stud in whose colours he runs.

Park Avenue a $220,000 Magic Millions yearling

The son of Fastnet Rock is the first foal of Mywayorthehighway (Swiss Ace), who comes from the family of multiple Group I winners Assertive Lass, Assertive Lad and Reset.

Purchased by Segenhoe Stud for $350,000 at the 2017 National Broodmare Sale as a racing or breeding proposition, Mywayorthehighway won four races highlighted by the Group III BRC Vo Rogue Plate.

Mywayorthehighway has a weanling filly by Fastnet Rock’s champion son Merchant Navy and is in foal to Trapeze Artist.

Park Avenue continues the great season Fastnet Rock is enjoying with his juveniles. The Coolmore champion looks the only challenger to Capitalist and Extreme Choice for Champion 2yo Sire honours.
