Orbisyn - How Good is He?

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 2

Still, in his first preparation, the David Vandyke-trained Orbisyn was quoted a $34 chance for the TAB Everest after keeping his record at a perfect four for four over 1350m at Doomben on Wednesday.

It was little more than a working gallop for the quirky son of Rich Enuff as Ryan Maloney guided him to a two and a quarter lengths win over Warp Speed (Star Witness) with Two Smokin Barrels (Declaration Of War) a further three and a quarter lengths back in third.

Later in the day, another star of the Vandyke stable, Weona Smartone (Shamexpress) was no less impressive when making it four wins on the bounce over 1200m.

Made a ‘Breednet One To Watch’ after making a winning career debut in a mid-weeker at Doomben on March 3, Orbisyn will be given a let-up before coming back for the spring.

Orbisyn earned the rath of stewards for his barrier manners at his career debut, and Vandyke said he is still working the 3yo gelding out.

“He likes things to be his way. It has really been a challenge meeting him in the middle because as soon as gets bullied, he resents it and goes the other direction,” Vandyke said.

“ You see that in him going to the barrier and going in. You cannot have someone on his head. He has to think about it and it has to be his own idea. Once in the gates, and when they open, he just loves it.

“Up to the 1350m he looked comfortable. There was no charging or over-racing. It was just tradesman-like.

“It has been a fantastic effort for a horse that has done it all in one prep.

“He will go to the paddock now, I think for my sake more than his. He has caused a few sleepless nights. The barrier staff, the clerk of the course, the stewards, everyone has been involved with helping us with this horse, full credit to all of them.

“This is her (owner Jan McMillan) last horse, so it is just fantastic, what racing is all about.”

Orbisyn is the seventh and final live foal out of the Mukaddamah (USA) mare Another Syn who has six winners from as many to race, including the stakes-placed Magic Talent (Show A Heart).

A 4-time winner in Brisbane, Another Syn was a half-sister to the two-time NZ Horse Of The Year Seachange and the Group 1 winner Keepa Cruisin’.

Rich Enuff (Written Tycoon) stands at Woodside Park in 2021 at a value fee of $8,800.
