Expensive Street Boss Dazzles on Debut

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 26

Street Boss (USA) is running hot with G1 performers Tentyris, Pericles and Tempted and the highest priced yearling by the sire sold in 2024 opened her account in dazzling style at Doomben on Wednesday.

A powerhouse chestnut in the mould of Tempted and Tentyris, the Tony Gollan trained three year old filly Marunouchi was a hot favourite for the 1200m maiden and duly  delivered the goods for punters.

The widest runner turning for home, Marunouchi let loose with a fast change of gear for Ben Thompson, zooming past her rivals like they were tied to the fence.

Marunouchi scored by a widening three lengths earning a place in the Black Book of every punter that saw her.

A $575,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Boomer Bloodstock from the Vinery Stud draft, Marunouchi was bred by Greg Perry and is the third winner from three foals to race from Group I placed More Than Ready (USA) mare Sezanne.

Highest priced yearling by Street Boss (USA) in 2024 -Marunouchi sold for $575,000 at Inglis Easter.

A three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Grace and Harmony from Group II winner Champagne Harmony,  Sezanne comes from a top class family featuring Group I winners Champagne, St Reims, Charmont and Bonneval, so Marunouchi does not lack for pedigree.

Sezanne was covered again last spring by Street Boss, who is riding high with seven Australian stakes-winners this season, while his champion son Anamoe lights up the sales with his first crop of yearlings.

Tempted will be seeking her first G1 this Saturday in the much hyped Group I ATC Surround Stakes - can she win? Click to read.
