Debut Winner for Vancouver

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 17

The race to be leading Australian second crop sire by winners is a close one with Golden Slipper winning sire Vancouver edging ahead of his barn mate and rival Pride of Dubai with a promising debut winner at Wyong on Thursday.

Trained by Adam Duggan, three year-old filly Syzygy Stars had shown promise in her only two barrier trials and made the leap to raceday with consummate ease.

Ridden patiently by Josh Parr, Syzygy Stars travelled quietly back in the field and unwound a great finish in the straight with her last furlong her best.

gin was only half a head, but Syzygy Stars was forging clear and will appreciate a bit further than the 1100m of this maiden event.

A $50,000 Magic Millions National Weanling purchase from the Coolmore draft, Syzygy Stars then made $65,000 when re-offered at Inglis Easter by Widden Stud and bought by Blossom Breeding.

Syzygy Stars is the first foal of unraced More Than Ready (USA) mare Perpetuum, a half-sister to Group III winner Maschino and stakes-winner Kentucky Breeze from Group III winner Tahni Girl.

Vancouver stands at a fee of $22,000.

Syzygy Stars is the 44th Australian winner of the season for Vancouver, which puts him one ahead of Pride of Dubai on 43.

Those 44 winners have come from 92 runners giving Vancouver a tidy 48% seasonal winner to runner strike rate.

Vancouver has been priced affordably this spring at $22,000 at Coolmore.
