G1 Fastnet Rock Son for Queensland

Media Release - Sunday June 27

The ownership group of Prince Fawaz are proud to announce the retirement of their Group 1 winner to Oaklands Stud in Queensland for the 2021 breeding season.

Prince Fawaz made history when he became Fastnet Rock’s first 2YO Group 1-winning colt in Australia, when victorious in the 2019 JJ Atkins.

Prince Fawaz is a G1 winning 2YO by Fastnet Rock.

He beat home a quality field that included two-time Group 1 winner Shadow Hero, in a performance that was rated by Timeform as superior to 2018 winner The Autumn Sun.

Purchased at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale by trainer Anthony Cummings for $220,000, he recalls a natural attraction to the colt due to his depth of pedigree, and an abundance of natural talent was quickly revealed.

“He’s the most exciting two-year-old I’ve trained,” said Cummings. “Right from when he turned up at the stables, he had a good attitude and was easy to deal with, obviously a horse of some quality.”

At just his second career start, Prince Fawaz lined up in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.

Finishing fifth, he came home in the second fastest last 600m behind Castelvecchio and subsequent dual Group 1 winner, Loving Gaby.

His maiden win came two starts later over 1400m at Randwick where he suffered major interference but still managed to rebalance and show a brilliant turn of foot to easily defeat future multiple Group performers Reloaded and Discharged, in a time of 1:22.1s.

In the year following his JJ Atkins win he was narrowly beaten into second place by Castelvecchio in the G1 Rosehill Guineas. The race was run in a faster time than the G1 Ranvet Stakes on the same day over the same distance, which was fought out by the international invader Addeybb and eight-time Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant.

Piloting the horse in three of his starts, jockey Kerrin McEvoy only has praise for Prince Fawaz.

“We won a Group 1 mile race at only his fifth race, and he did it in dynamic fashion. It was a thrilling ride. He was lovely to ride, strong muscled and was quite push-button. He had a nice big action, covering the ground well.” said Kerrin.

“I can’t wait to see his progeny at stud. I think he’ll stamp them, and he’ll stamp them well.”

Prince Fawaz will stand at a fee of $11,000.

Prince Fawaz joins fellow stallions with J.J. Atkins form at stud, including Zoustar, Brazen Beau, Darci Brahma, Show A Heart, Zeditave and Luskin Star.

“When he was on-song, he ran time, did it against the best opposition and he did it comfortably, so has all the hallmarks of a very good horse,” said Cummings.

Fastnet Rock is currently having one of his best seasons, siring 24 individual stakes winners worldwide of 33 stakes races, including four Group 1 winners.

As a sire of sires, Fastnet Rock has already had eight sons at stud produce Group 1 winners, including Smart Missile, a Champion First Season Sire who currently sits in the top 10 on the Australian Sire winners Premiership this season.

Outstanding sire son Hinchinbrook, also a Champion First Season Sire, commanded a fee of $55,000 before his premature death aged only ten.

Prince Fawaz’s dam, Lady Paget, won 2 races at 1200m and 1400m and has produced 3 foals, all winners.

She is from the stakes-placed Last Tycoon mare Lady Capel, who has produced 4 stakes winners including the Group 1 winner and 2YO stakes winner, Casino Prince (Flying Spur) who sired All Too Hard.

“We are very excited and humbled to have the opportunity to partner with the owners to stand Prince Fawaz, a son of Fastnet Rock, at Oaklands Stud in Queensland,” said Stud Principal, Neville Stewart.

“He is an outstanding individual with an outstanding stallion’s pedigree.”

Standing for a fee of $11,000 including GST, Prince Fawaz will stand alongside Power and Exosphere.

A limited number of Lifetime Breeding Rights are also available.
