$470,000 Deep Field Colt Headed to Hong Kong

Media Release - Wednesday November 17

There was a flurry of action at Te Rapa on Wednesday when lot 44 came into the virtual sales ring at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready To Run Sale.

Offered through Riversley Park’s draft, the Deep Field colt had breezed in a time of 10.80 seconds, gaining the interest of a number of prospective buyers.

When the dust settled it was Hong Kong trainer Jimmy Ting who came out on top, with his bid of $470,000 securing the sought-after colt.

The colt is out of Pins mare Bang On, whose dam is Group One winner Critc, who has also left Group Three performer Critical Angel.

Ting was pleased with his new acquisition, citing that his pedigree and physical attributes are ideal for Hong Kong racing.

“The Deep Fields do very well in Hong Kong,” Ting said.

“His breeze-up was good, he has a big stride, he is a very strong horse, and his action is good, so I tried to buy him.

“I am very lucky that the buyer could buy him.”

Ting purchased the colt with the help of Hong Kong agent Willie Leung for a Hong Kong- based client.

Ting is yet to decide when the colt will make his way north to Hong Kong.

“I need to talk with the owner to see whether he comes straight back to Hong Kong or stays in New Zealand for a few months,” he said.

It was a good result for vendors Riversley Park who purchased the colt as a yearling earlier this year from the Gold Coast for A$125,000.

Pleased with his purchase, Ting said he is set to be active throughout the sale.

“I am still looking for a couple more,” he said.

The Deep Fields were in good demand at Te Rapa on Wednesday, with lot 64, the Deep Field colt out of Regal Farm’s draft selling to Hong Kong trainer Me Tsui for $350,000, while lot 69, the colt out of Kilgravin Lodge’s draft sold to Mr EHT Hung of Hong Kong for $150,000, and lot 50, a colt out of Kiltannon Stables’ draft, sold for $140,000 to Te Akau principal David Ellis. – NZ Racing Desk
